“Peace is accepting today, releasing yesterday, and giving up the need of control tomorrow!!”
Lori Deshcheue.
Sometimes, our life becomes a chaotic mess, and we just feel lost. The more we try to come out of this mess, the more we get engulfed within it. We feel helpless. And then a point comes when we just drop our weapons in defeat and accept the fate. But we forget the most important lesson, that life is never about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance in the rain!! In the same way, it takes a lot of time for us to understand that it isn’t about fighting with the chaos around but about finding the calm in that chaos. Because if we don’t find the peace within ourselves, our minds will never silence although the chaos outside ceases to exist.
Chaos can be simply a situation of getting stuck into heavy traffic, when you need to reach for an important meeting or missing the most important opportunity, you have waited for all along. Every chaos comes with uncertainty, insecurities, fears and an inability to control the situation. But then how to find the peace or calm when everything around you screams of disharmony and disorder. Well, I agree, it’s difficult but definitely not impossible. First of all, what we need to understand is that finding peace doesn’t mean to be in a quiet place, without any trouble or staying away from hard work, it just means you are still calm in the midst of all these things. Then how to achieve this peace?? There are few simple ways for that which are mentioned below.
- Breath In, Breath Out: The instant way to detach yourself from the chaos is deep breathing. Yes, it works wonders!! You need to concentrate on your breaths and with each exhaling breath, let your mind be relaxed and collect your thoughts. This exercise definitely helps you to reduce panic in the middle of chaos.
- Separate yourself from the situation and think as a third person: Being in an unpleasant situation can be overwhelming!! When you are going through a difficult phase, you tend to lose the ability to think rationally which is quite normal. But when you detach yourself from that situation and think as if someone else is in that situation, how that person can respond to it, you get a clearer and better perspective of the dealing with the same situation.
- Focus on factors within Control: When in a chaotic situation, our mind is cluttered with thousands of thoughts. Just take a moment and concentrate on the factors which are in your control. Those can be worked upon and resolved with some thinking and appropriate action. Instead, if we indulge in the problems which are actually out of our control, we just exhaust ourselves without any fruitful solution.
- Look for that silver lining in your dark cloud: Hardships in your life may leave you groping in the darkness. But always remember, every dark cloud comes with a silver lining. So, train your mind to look for something positive in every situation. Because, when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
So, whenever you find yourself in chaos, just try out these small remedies and see if you feel any change. Of course, every person has his own technique to find peace, be it a long walk/run, a soothing song, a call with a loved one or meditation, whatever it be don’t hesitate to try it out. Please share your techniques to deal with the chaos in the comments.
Last but not least, chaos can also be an opportunity to create in order your life. As we all know, all great changes are preceded by chaos. Always remember,
“Sometimes, you find yourself in the middle of the chaos, and sometimes in the middle of the chaos, you find yourself!!”
